Tell the Feds what you think of their plans
The Transportation Security Administration will hold a public hearing in Washington, DC, this Thursday morning, September 20, 2007 on the TSA’s so-called Secure Flight scheme to require government-issued travel credentials and individualized, explicit, prior permission for all domestic airline travelers within the U.S., and to subject us to government-compelled search and interrogation by private commercial third parties whenever we fly.
The hearing is open to the public, and you can sign up to speak on site with the TSA staff beginning at 8:00 a.m. Thursday at the Grand Hyatt Washington, 1000 H Street, N.W. (2 blocks from Metro Center station).
The Identity Project will be there to give our comments in person. We are also submitting detailed written comments on what’s wrong with this scheme. If you can make it, we encourage you to come out too, and tell the TSA what you think of their plans.
If you can’t make it to the hearing, you can submit comments to the TSA online. You can submit comments anonymously, and you don’t have to be a U.S. citizen or resident
Outrageous. I am aghast to see what is happening to our country.
Maybe this or another such site should post a registry of checkpoints and roadblocks where they are checking for papers, seatbelts or DUI so one can at least avoid going there.
Car registration is but a cash cow for government. Licensing does not guarantee one knows how to drive and could be done privately by companies whose profit margin depends on doing it right. Whether you wear a seatbelt or not is a personal matter. While I do *not* condone DUI as it endangers others, roadblocks are not the answer even if they were legal, which they are not.
So I have no qualms about advocating advance information about where the checkpoints are.
So a spy agency wants to know you’re reading on an airplane? Duh, I would think that would be elementary for doing its job. Are we supposed to ignore anything that provides insights into a person’s character?
Funny how Democrats complain about losing rights when they’re the ones behind smoking bans, seat belt laws, trans fat limitations, plastic bag bans, etc., etc.
I would fire any intelligence agent who didn’t take note of what someone was reading.
This has nothing to do with keeping us safe and has everything to do with increasing the power of a government with totalitarian ambitions over its own people. What is happening in this country is deplorable and it’s becoming clearer every day. We must not submit to further dehumanization and put ourselves at the mercy of a corrupt government by giving up all our rights to privacy and free travel. Take the time and make a comment on the docket website! We need to get involved and live up our responsibility to check the power of our own government. If we don’t, no one will and the end result will be disastrous.
I’m from the UK and am really concerned about whats happening in the States, as its slowly spreading over here.
How can the US Government get away with using terrorism to harrass their own people? Isnt this like Communist Russia? Its a tactic thats been used over and over again. Same as what Hitler did when burning the Reistag to cause a reaction and get a solution. 9/11 has been used as a way to control and take away so many of our rights as human beings. We are slowly being turned into a robot society. All I can say to these evil doers is… what goes around comes around. If they continue to harrass and spy on us, isnt it time we did the same to them? People should start speaking out about any of these people in government who have been seen to be breaking the law (or what they have made out to be the law), and use their own justice system against them. Record them, follow them, trace their transactions… see how they like it!! We need to stand together in this fearful time and play them at their own game. TOGETHER, WE CAN CONQUER THIS TERRIBLE AFFLICTION!!! WAKE UP AMERICA!!! WAKE UP ANYONE IN THE WORLD AFFECTED BY THIS TYRRANY!!! THIS HAS NOW GONE TOO FAR!!! MAY YOUR GOD BE WITH U!!!
“So a spy agency wants to know you’re reading on an airplane? Duh, I would think that would be elementary for doing its job. Are we supposed to ignore anything that provides insights into a person’s character? ”
This is what we are dealing with people. This person who posted above has absolutely no idea what they just read – if they in fact read it at all. Its all about Democrats and Republicans to them. If it was reported in the news that George Bush ate newborn babies this dolt would support him by saying “babies are full of protein!” or “Clinton ate babies too!”
So Charles, since you are obviously a little slow on the uptake, let me break it down for you. This issue is about the government requiring you to obtain their permission before traveling within the US! You know, like they did in the former Soviet Union? Requiring permission from the government to travel within the country was one of the reasons Ronald Reagan called them “the great satan”.
Do yourself a favor. Go back to the link of this website headed “the issue” and reread it, or maybe have somebody read it to you. Preferably somebody with an IQ higher than yours. Then perhaps you can come back and post without looking like a complete imbecile
I am very concerned about this further erosion of the right to travel. Together with Amtrak’s requirement to present ID upon boarding a train (http://www.gomovers.com/amtrak-pre-departure.html), there is only one mode of transportation available to everyone if you do not want to present ID. Doesn’t that call for a re-visit of Gilmore vs. Gonzales?
i would like to know how to request a copy of my government file on my travel
Along with things like the Military Commissions Act and other disgusting and unconstitutional signings and actions by this government, mainly the neo-con artists, our Constitution and Bill of Rights are being completely shredded. In case you missed it, per the MCA you can be arrested and rendered god-knows-where simply for opposing the war or the gov’t’s efforts to conduct the so-called war on terror, which is a complete farce. 9/11 was an inside job, this admin’s Reichstag fire. Google Operations Northwoods. Perpetual war is the goal. War is Peace, Control is Freedom. Orwellian dreams do come true.
You needn’t be a Dem or Repub (best if you’re neither!) to be outraged. But fret not, for they are far more interested in your children and getting them “chipped” and so numb to surveillance and security checks that they will be able to erase their identities with the press of a button if they get out of line. But of course, it’s all for the good of National Security. But then, what nation is that, the North American Union? Google it.
I kid you not. How else can they achieve their goal of one world government? Read it and weep:
“We are grateful to The Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But, the work is now much more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in past centuries.” David Rockefeller, founder of the Trilateral Commission, in an address to a meeting of The Trilateral Commission, in June, 1991.
